VERA, WO 13 & DO 14 JANUARI, 12-17.30 UUR, GRATIS
Two afternoons and two rooms full of nice music, art and people. Tiny Room Records, Sharksomeness Bookings and VERA ArtDivision decided to team up!
The ArtDivision will show you how they make their famous silk screen printed posters by live-printing posters of some of the bands that are playing Vera during Eurosonic Noorderslag. This and other of their artworks will be for sale as well.
Besides that, Tiny Room Records and Sharksomeness Bookings invited some of their bands to play Downstage. On Wednesday you’ll get time to warm up and start slowly, with beautiful tunes of The World of Dust, Dotlights and Joost Dijkema. On Thursday it gets a little louder with Lost Bear, LGHTNNG, This Leo Sunrise and The Daydream Fit. Besides that, Homemade Empire will accompany the printing team upstairs with some of his beautiful songs.
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 13TH
The World Of Dust
The World of Dust is the music and art project of Stefan Breuer (also a member of Lost Bear, I Am Oak and Howart). The album Womb Realm saw the light of day last September. These new songs (produced by Todd Tobias of Guided By Voices fame) are intimate and soothing, embracing the legacy of indie pop songwriters such as Elliott Smith, Nick Drake and Arthur Russell. During the live shows, collages are projected to create a calming, slightly psychedelic vibe.
Dotlights
Dotlights is a guitarist turned laptop-producer from The Netherlands. Working out of a small homestudio in a quiet town near the German border, he uses guitars, stompbox loopmachinery and sampled instruments to create atmospheric and textural, slightly experimental pieces. Listen
Joost Dijkema
Joost Dijkema has been around for quite some time in the Groningen garage-punk scene, but lately focusses on shushing audiences with his solo work. He became obsessed by the Americana finger-picking guitar work he taught himself by repeatedly playing pieces by such musicians as Steve Gunn, Robbie Basho and Michael Chapman. His first album will be out soon.
THURSDAY JANUARY 14TH
Lost Bear
Operating in the underground since 2007. They have toured the Balkan, France & Germany and shared the stage with likeminded bands such as The Lemonheads, Sebadoh and Joan of Arc. Since two years they rediscovered the 4-track cassette recorder, resulting in a big pile of more than 150 new songs combining multiple genres like psychedelica, krautrock, noise and power pop. They’ve lost band members, downgraded their ambitions and switched instruments. Now Lost Bear is one of the most creative, daring and fun bands around.
LGHTNNG
LGHTNNG makes electropop based on the 80’s – the glorious days of the synthesizer era. With shades and a gloomy outlook on the future included, without sounding dated. They provide you with electronic songs with a sound and feel of bands such as Chromatics, Electric Youth and Nite Jewel. Sometimes quiet and melancholic, at other times incentive and melodious.
This Leo Sunrise
Alt. folk/indie rock from Utrecht. ‘Real’ songs are mixed with cinematic, repetitive drones, creating a broad sound spectrum. With 10 years of experience they have created their most focussed work to date with Do Not Always See (November 2015). This Leo Sunrise have toured throughout Europe, playing with related bands such as The Low Anthem, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Damien Jurado and Great Lake Swimmers.
The Daydream Fit
This highly energetic fourpiece from Enschede/Utrecht excels in playing indie/noisepunk. They like Pavement and Sonic Youth (and even worked together with Lee Ranaldo) and they like recording, and playing. So check out their EP’s (a full length will be out in early 2016) and let them blow you away in their favourite cellar!
Homemade Empire
Homemade Empire is a musical project of Bart de Kroon. After years of playing in different bands he wanted to create a musical universe based on his own uncompromised vision. De Kroon’s vision is very much based on do(om)-it-yourself, and glowing, warm and fuzzy, analogue sounds. This afternoon he will be playing some of his beautiful and intimate acoustic songs.
